Westview is home to many clubs, including the GSA, or Gender Sexuality Alliance Club. Isabelle Hale, 10, is the creator and leader of GSA. Hale started the GSA club her freshman year when she realized that Westview didn’t have one.
“I got my friends together and I was like “Hey, should we make our own [club]?” and they said, “Yeah let’s do it” so we made our own,” Hale said.
Hale said she started the club to have a safe space for anyone looking for it.
“[We wanted] to let people know, hey, here’s this safe place, we do fun things, you know. You can come here and talk to us, you can hang out, no judgment,” Hale said.
The GSA Club started off their year August 25 with their first meeting. They spent time going over expectations, introducing themselves to one another, doing karaoke and coloring.
Going further into the year, Hale said that she is looking forward to higher participation in the club. She is also looking forward to seeing new faces at GSA this year and is hoping that people who are thinking about joining will come to a meeting.
“Don’t be afraid, just do it. No one’s going to judge you, just show up for an hour, see if you like it or not,” Hale said.
The GSA Club meets every other Monday and welcomes everyone.
