At the beginning of this year, Westview’s DECA redesigned the Snack Shack. The changes came after the Snack Shack went from being run by multiple clubs to DECA primarily running it.
“DECA focuses on SBE, student-based enterprise… Westview as a chapter can earn a gold letter certification, which can then be used to hit a certain goal under DECA that allows members new opportunities like ICD competition,” Club Sponsor Julie Burnett said.
Burnett added, “Because DECA is a business club, we are really focusing on processes, customer service skills, how to greet people, how to take an order… that students can then use to then put on a resume and hopefully help them either get a new job, their first job, or just be more prepared for working role in high school.”
As a result of new stationary tables instead of a cart and new credit card machines, there are now two lines to separate card and cash transactions.
Within the next couple of weeks, they plan to have a second shack upstairs, Officer Jenna Smith, 11, said.
“We are just working on figuring out workers and the logistics of it, because we know freshmen want to help as well,” Officer Josh Frakes, 11, said.
