Westview is opening up Girls on the Gridiron to the freshman and sophomore class, when years before it has been open to only eleventh and twelfth graders.
Girls on the Gridiron is a flag football event to empower female sports. It helps the women of the school get involved and make memories through football.
“We want to encourage female athletes that are interested in the sport, as female flag football is growing throughout the nation,” Scott Peters, Assistant Principal and Activities Director, said.
Another reason he extended flag football to the underclassmen is to make endless memories through-out students’ high school career.
“If you come here and you want to do this for four years, you’ll remember that for the rest of your life,” Peters, said.
Girls on the Gridiron has also become a key event for homecoming week. The girls involved get riled up in good spirits as they compete together.
“There are a lot of freshman and sophomore’s going out, so it is going to be hype,” Payton Cooks, Girls on the Gridiron participant 10, said.
