On Tuesday, September 16, Nebraska volleyball beat Creighton in a hard-fought 5 set match at the CHI Health Center.
It has become more common that Nebraska be referred to as, “The Volleyball State” due to the attendance at many volleyball events throughout the state. Last year, for example, 92,003 fans attended an outdoor volleyball match in Memorial stadium.
This Tuesday yet another attendance record was broken: the NCAA attendance record for a regular season indoor match. The previous record was held by a match between Wisconsin and Marquette with 17,037 fans and was broken at the Nebraska and Creighton game with 17,675 fans.
The first set ended with a score of 25-17, causing Husker fans to get excited and hopeful for a quick sweep.
The second set went in the opposite of the first, as Creighton came out on top at 21-25. As both teams fought hard to keep the game going, the Huskers won 25-18 in set 3.
Finally, set 4 had fans on the edge of their seats with a final score of 24-26, the Jays pushing the match to 5 sets.
Set 5 ended quickly due to multiple service errors on behalf of Creighton. The final for set 5 was 15-9, Huskers coming out on top.
This game was a high-energy environment as many volleyball fans were there in support of both Creighton and Nebraska. Harper Murray led Nebraska with 17 kills while Ava Martin had 17 kills for Creighton.
In the end, the match was fought hard for both teams with Number One Nebraska Volleyball finishing with a strong win.
