Westview’s Drama Department recently had their first production of the year – “The Play that Goes Wrong.” Before the performances, rehearsals and meetings had been taking place 2-5 days a week in the auditorium and rooms around it.
The students that are a part of this play had many different tasks to put the play all together. The cast and crew all had their own different responsibilities and made their own contributions during the past weeks of practices and meetings.
“I’m the one who’s coming up with all the blocking and movement for the show, but I’m also overseeing the technical side of things,” said Mr. Schik, Westview’s drama and stagecraft teacher and director of the play.
This show has also had productions in the UK, on tours, and on and off Broadway. Mr. Schik has seen this production at the professional level three times, so he had a good feel for the show. He also enjoys seeing this production being brought to life at the high school level and seeing what these students are doing with the roles.
“That’s the [other] cool thing about it too. It’s written that people can play these different parts
depending upon who they are,” said Schik.
The crew for the show had been working to put together the sets, sounds, lighting and costumes. Their meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays have allowed them to do this.
The actors had been given the tasks of memorizing their lines and movements across the stage, which included their stunts. They practiced the more difficult movements with safety aspects and had been looking forward to getting the aspects put in place so that they could do more with their characters.
