On Friday, February 14th, 85 Westview students boarded two charter buses and made a three-hour journey to Kearney High School. Their goal was to bring the largest opposing student section Kearney has ever seen.
“It is pretty awesome that so many students wanted to go support their classmates three hours away,” Kearney Boys Basketball head coach Drake Beranek said.
Organized by the Westview Crew, students paid $10 for a seat on the charter bus, a snack bag, pizza, and entrance to the game. There was so much interest after the link to sign up was first posted that the crew decided to fundraise and get a second bus to accommodate.
“ As a third-year school, building traditions and fostering school spirit are essential, and this trip gave students a chance to connect, support their peers, and be part of something bigger,” Nicole Deprez, President of the Westview crew said.
Both teams came out of Kearney with a win, finishing the regular season on a high note. The Westview Girls Basketball team ended their regular season 20-3 and the boys team ended 21-2. With only 5 losses all together, the Westview students have had a lot to cheer about.
Both teams will be hosting districts in the Den and are expecting another great show out of students.
