On Friday, September 13, the varsity football team picked up their second win of the season against their “rivals” Burke High Bulldogs 42-7.
After a slow start to the game for both teams, Sage Giddings, 11, put the Wolverines on the board first with an 85-yard rushing touchdown.
Giddings led Westview in rushing yards with 20 carries for 207 yards. He also had another touchdown in the 3rd quarter, adding to Westview’s lead.
“I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my o-line and the play calls by Coach Hoden,” Giddings, 11, said.
Kingston Moore, 10, also scored points for the Wolverines in the first half with a goal line catch to put the Wolverines up. Westview ended the half up 15-7.
After halftime, the Westview offense started to find their groove, outscoring Burke 27-0.
The highlight of the half was Cameron Schlueter’s diving interception in the end zone to put them ahead in the 3rd quarter.
“All of a sudden, I turned around and I saw the ball, and I was like ‘no way he overthrew this’,” Schlueter,11, said.
The Wolverines will take on Papillion La Vista South on September 19.
