On Thursday, Feb. 26, during homeroom, Westview put together a red-carpet walkout to celebrate the recent successes of multiple athletes in swim and robotics. This was just the most recent in a series of walk outs and parades honoring all events attending state competitions and earning high awards at those competitions.
Students came together by the front entrance to cheer on the athletes as they walked by, congratulating them on their achievements and the new titles they earned, which would go in Westview’s history.
For swim Brock Vlietstra, 11, Kate Richardson, 9, Cambry Cover, 10, Eleanor Engel, 9, Cali Nielson, 11, Brynn Hoeck, 10, Ella Carson, 11, Micah Strubbe, 10, Gabe Ballard, 9, Oren Smidt, 10, Jade Lopez, 11, Logan Deike, 11, and Victor Rozier-Epting, 10, were honored for going to state.
Unified swim members Henry-Herrera-Palma, 11, Helmer Pablo Robles, 11 and Francesca Cogua, 10 walked for going to state.
Robotics members Will Cameron, 12, Zack Law, 12, Alyssa Freeman, 12, Austin McGrath, 12, Orin Benson, 12, Joesif Payne, 12, Phoenix Kornoski, 12 and Michael Ruvalcaba, 11, were honored for going to state.
This celebration was also made possible with groups like the JROTC colorguard, who raised their swords for the athletes to walk through. Admin also played a role in putting the parade together because they wanted the athletes to feel specially recognized for their major successes.
This walk out showed the fast growth that Westview athletics is experiencing and how the athletes are ready to continue stepping up and taking it to another level.
