This past fall, four Westview student athletes signed to play college athletics around the Midwest.
Dayton Snelling,12, and Faith Koranda,12, both competed for Westview this fall, Snelling for football and Koranda for golf.
Snelling signed to Southwest Minnesota State after playing varsity football at Westview for three years. He says that although he probably won’t play as soon as he arrives as a freshman, he wanted to go somewhere that he could get bigger, stronger and faster.
“When I signed it felt surreal, even though I didn’t decorate [his table], it was awesome to see everyone there,” Snelling said.
Koranda signed to Iowa Western Community College after playing varsity golf at Westview for all four years after first picking up a club her freshman year. She chose Iowa Western for its location, academics, and quality of the golf program. She says that she is most excited to meet new people, try new things, and have a more structured practice schedule.
Ava Simpson,12, and Addison Wiese,12, both played their respective sports for club teams in the Omaha area and are now moving on to the next level.
Ava Simpson signed to Wisconsin Lutheran to play softball. She plays club softball for Nebraska Stealth-Kramer 18U and her coach Jerad Woolhiser came to watch her sign.
“I was very grateful to have one of my coaches take time out of his day to come support me, I really love my team and coaches and was happy to see him there,” Simpson said.
Addison Wiese signed to CSU Pueblo for lacrosse after playing for Omaha Eagles, a team affiliated with Omaha Central. She has been playing lacrosse since freshman year.
“I was originally unsure of whether I wanted to continue playing lacrosse in college or not, but signing really set my decision in stone and I’m happy I decided to continue playing,” Wiese said.
The next signing day will be Wednesday February 4, with 3 softball girls signing in the gym at 7:00 am and two football players signing in the auditorium during Wolverine Wrap-up.
