On Sunday, August 24, O,NE took place. “O,NE” is an event in Omaha that has been hosted annually since the year 2021.
The first few years, it took place at Christ Community Church. This year the numbers grew so much that the location was changed to Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston.
The premise of this event is to bring together Christian middle and high school students across Omaha. It involves events like worship, prayer, games, food trucks and more.
Jules Simmons, a senior at Westview, has gone to ONE for three years now.
“This is my third year at ONE and I have seen God move every year,” she said.
Many students from Westview attended this event. It was a way for students in the school to build more connections with the people they are around every day.
Grayson Shuster, a junior at Westview, had the opportunity to go to this event. He described it as a way for him to learn how to lead in his faith with God.
Beginning with a pre-service prayer, Shuster was in fellowship with people from his city the entire night. After this prayer, students went outside to enjoy a block party.
“I am happy with the way God is moving in this city”, said Shuster.
On the lawn outside of Liberty First Credit Union Arena, hundreds of students gathered to simply have a fun time. This consisted of food trucks, cornhole, gaga ball, and many more activities.
As the night continued, students got the chance to move inside for worship.
“I always love the worship,” said Shuster when asked about his favorite part of the evening.
The worship team went through many songs as students lifted their hands in praise to the Lord. Lyrics played on the large screen, with spotlights lighting up the singers on stage.
Following worship, students had the opportunity to split into their schools. Around the arena, adults stood with the name of schools across Omaha listed. Westview High ended up having around 40-50 students attend.
Once in their schools, students had the chance to pray over each other and their school in general.
“My favorite part was when we got into our schools and prayed. I think it’s cool to come together as one church under one God with people that you don’t normally talk to,” Simmons said.
Both Shuster and Simmons spoke about how this event was overall a wonderful opportunity for them to learn more about Jesus and see Him move in our city.
“I hope that events like this pushed people that loving God and fully running after and being hungry for the Lord is cool, it is an amazing thing that we want everyone to experience,” said Simmons.
