Is Bigfoot real? Why do spirits stay behind? Have real UFOs been spotted? Westview’s new Paranormal club will seek to answer these questions.
Westview is developing a new club that will involve students in investigating everything supernatural. Mysteries will be explored and chills will be spread.
Students will have the opportunity to discuss with other kids their conspiracies and work together to try and create answers about the unexplained. They will also have the opportunity to hear guest speakers, go on ghost hunts, and participate in next year’s Boo Bash.
People who are skeptical in the belief of the supernatural are also welcome to stop by for a meeting if they are open to the idea of being convinced of the paranormal by people like Ms. Shafer who believe in it.
“My aunt had a flower shop next to a mortuary and I liked to hang out there. The unknown and thought of the other planes of the universe interested me,” said Shafer, who remembers this as what sparked her interested in the paranormal.
Shafer, Westview’s Special Education Secretary, thought of the idea of forming this club. While the meeting dates and place haven’t been formally decided yet, Shafer still encourages students to reach out if they are interested to gain further information on what works best for students
At her previous job at Central High School, where there was a ghost hunting club which she was curious about but didn’t feel comfortable to ask about or join. However, when she came to Westview and lots of different clubs were being created, she saw the opportunity to set up her own club that would deal with everything paranormal.
“I thought it would be fun and get kids involved who aren’t really interested in other clubs, and include people who believe in the paranormal,” said Shafer
She hopes this club becomes a safe space for people to share that they believe in and build relationships with other students. She also wants kids to discover a place for them in school where they feel like they can express themselves.
