On October 1, the U.S. experienced our fifth major government shutdown.
Previously government shutdowns lasted anywhere from one day to thirty-five days.
This is the second longest shutdown ever. The future is not looking promising. They are in no rush to find common ground and make an agreement.
A government shutdown happens when the Democrats and Republicans cannot come to an agreement on bill funding. This means the government’s “unlimited credit card” is cut off. According to the NCSL, about 750,000 government employees are on unpaid leave.
According to NPR, some major things that are affected are Air traffic control and flying, so there will be major delays and slower airport service overall. Federal workers and active-duty military are some who must continue to work without pay. Federal court will also continue, but the government has asked to put civil cases on pause.
One job that varies from shutdown to shutdown is national park workers depending on the location some parks are still accessible. Some National Parks need workers, so civilians cannot trash and damage the land because there is no one working to stop them. As well as the animals in the parks who do not have protection.
According to the BBC, Trump is threatening to lay off people permanently which means the impact would be much more significant. He completely disregards families whose only source of income is government employment.
Congress was not able to do their job and reach a compromise which means the shutdown continues, but what really perplexed me was the fact that they would not continue the session to make a decision.
But the politicians could use the government’s money to fly home once they did not make a decision but cannot pay any of the “not needed” workers.
I think we are straying away from what is more important on the news, so they may not want to reopen the session because the first thing on the agenda is releasing Jeffery Epstein files. I hope everyone is aware what happened on “Epstein’s Island” and how he died.
If you do not, according to the Department of Justice, he had two residents where he invited “customers” and they were known to have young girls there that they would violate, so the files have a list of all the “customers.” He allegedly took his life in his jail cell, but conveniently all the cameras glitched or were turned away.
These are just a small part of how our government is not serving the American people.
The US government and leaders of America are incredibly childish. After more than 7 million people protested for kings’ day Trump proceeded to post a video of him flying a fighter jet and dropping feces on the protesters. According to CBS News, two days ago he started the demolition of the east wing of the White House to build his ballroom. After he already turned the rose garden into a patio. He is ruining a historic site that he does not even own, he is just being housed there for his term.
Another example is Trump literally saying out of his mouth, “We took away the freedom of speech.” He said he took away the first amendment, which sounds like a dictator.
Our government needs to do better by our American citizens.
