On October 23, Westview’s athletics and Student Council collaborated with the students of Omaha to reach the moonshot goal by hosting a Literacy Under the Lights.   

This is when younger students, kindergarten through 8th grade, can come out and participate in reading books with high schoolers. Since this is the first one and its fall, we were on the football field. There were blankets laid out on the field as well as bags of popcorn and books ready for the kids. 

The goal of Literacy Under the Lights was to encourage younger students to read and show them it really can be enjoyable. It helps them understand the importance of reading at a young age and going forward. The goal is to help reach our moonshot goal of having all students reading and their grade level. 

  All of Westview students were buddied up with a kid, reading and getting to know each other. There were also bookmarks they could get signed and take home for a little souvenir.
