Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, in Chicago over the Halloween weekend and Day of the Dead celebrations did not back down in violence towards the immigrants. 

The city had asked ICE to put a hold on detaining immigrants and hold from their operations until after the Halloween and Day of the Dead celebrations. They did not comply and continued to use force against immigrants. 

They threw tear gas into the residential neighborhoods while trick-or-treating was in process. There were children walking the streets of their own neighborhood. 

Reporters spoke to firsthand witnesses from the event said they were sad for the people who are mourning a recent death and would usually set up for Day of the Dead but were too scared to come out and celebrate for them due to the fear of ICE. 

According to The Guardian, yearly attendees of Halloween parades and Day of the Dead celebrations, said the number of participants was obviously lower. Some Halloween parades were even canceled.
