Nebraska traveled to the Sanford Pentagon to take on the Oklahoma Sooners at a neutral game site in South Dakota. The 3,250 seat venue was taken over by Cornhusker fans, as the atmosphere was intense and only a handful of Sooners fans could be spotted in the sea of red.
Nebraska (3-0, 0-0 in BIG) was the favored team against Oklahoma (2-2, 0-0 SEC), by –1.5 points, predicting a close game and two evenly matched opponents. The crowd was electric in the pre-game warmups, chanting “Go Big Red” and “Husker Power.”
Oklahoma got off to a fast start, jumping ahead 10 points until Pryce Sandfort hit a three-pointer for the Cornhuskers first points of the night and the start of Sandfort’s big game. Oklahoma continued to dominate as they had a 16-point lead at one point before Nebraska clawed their way back to a 7-point deficit at halftime.
Nebraska came out of the half shooting lights out, as Reink Mast and Pryce Sandfort ignited the team and crowd, hitting nine of Nebraska’s 15 three pointers to give the Huskers a big lead going down the stretch.
With their first lead of the game and finally in control, the crowd came back to life, roaring with every three pointers and getting loud on defense. The game got very close, and Nebraska eventually came out on top with a 105-99 victory over the Sooners.
Pryce Sandfort finished the game with 28 points and 7 assists, and Reink Mast scored 26 points with a blend of three pointers and power at the rim. The Oklahoma head coach, Porter Moser, later credited the crowd as being a big factor in the game, citing the difficulty of hearing and coaching with the players.
With that win, Nebraska extended their NCAA best winning streak of 8 games, dating back to last year.
Nebraska will take on the New Mexico Lobos (3-1, MWC 0-0).
Oklahoma will take on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (2-3, SL 0-0).
