Winter break starts for Westview Wolverines on December 20. It lasts from December 20 to January 4. There are a lot of opportunities for fun winter activities around Omaha and neighboring communities.
To start, Lauritzen Gardens has an annual Holiday Poinsettia Show. Along with this beautiful floral display, Lauritzen Gardens has select nights in which they have a “Bright Nights” event. This event requires tickets for certain time slots. There are lots of opportunities for holiday fun at Lauritzen Gardens, with even more listed on lauritzengardens.org.
Another fun activity around Omaha is “Zoolightful” at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. This event includes large lanterns and countless lights through archways, animal displays, and more. Tickets are available online for children and adults.
Downtown Omaha is a very festive place at this time of year. It has greenery and lights all along and near the Old Market Passageway. It is free to walk around and explore the city.
The Skate Ribbon is located in the Heartland of America Park at the RiverFront. This is a free ice skate rink if you bring your own equipment. Otherwise, skate rentals are available for both children and adults. You do have to reserve a time for the skate ribbon, which can be done online. This is a very fun chance to be near Christmas lights and a large Christmas Tree while enjoying your ice skating.
For all of your Christmas shopping needs, Omaha offers a variety of shops and shopping centers. These include Village Pointe, Westroads Mall, Rockbrook Village, Shops of Legacy, and more.
Fontenelle Forest has an annual Winter Wonderland celebration. They decorate with lots of Christmas Decor, including lights along the Riverview Boardwalk, a short hiking trail. Check out Fontenelle Forest’s website for more information.
If you are willing to drive a bit for fun winter activities, Crescent Hill, previously known as Mt. Crescent, is an opportunity for skiing and snowboarding. It opens on Saturday, December 20 for the seasonand tickets can be purchased online. Along with this, there are chances for helmet and ski/snowboard rentals. It is only about a 30 minute drive from Westview, so it can be a quick day trip if you’d like the chance to try snowboarding and skiing.
If you don’t feel like leaving your own home, there’s plenty of activities you can do on your own! Drink some hot cocoa, watch some Holiday movies, bake some cookies, and enjoy time with your family.
