The Westview chapter of JROTC is participating in the Kalahari Classic on January 24 and 25, and the Westview Robotics team is already preparing for it.
The Kalahari Classic is a robotics competition held at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Sandusky, Ohio. Right next to the water parks is the largest indoor water park in the United States.
The event will use VEX Robotics for the competition. VEX Robotics is a global robotics company that specializes in creating teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity when creating robotics. Students who use VEX Robotics will build robots by using versatile parts, motors, and sensors.
Preparing for these types of events can be a struggle for the students involved. According to Michael Ruvalcaba, an 11th grader robotics student, checking for parts can create unwanted stress.
Being careful with these robots is absolutely imperative. The robots can cost anywhere from $400 to $2,000. This is why it is important to take every safety precaution necessary to handle these robots.
Despite the long bus drive, getting to nationals will be worth it. Getting your work on a national scale and having people in the field judge their work is very important.
There is also a potential chance for military recruiters to be at the event. Many of these aspiring students want to pursue military science, and this is their key to getting into that field.
The Kalahari Classic has become a very important event for students in JROTC Robotics. This national event is the key for students to getting into the field and having their work be seen by people in the field. Overall, this has become a very important event for students and JROTC instructors.
