On January 24, Westview DECA showed out at the All-Metro Competition, with six top three finishers and eleven more placing top eight.
DECA is a worldwide organization that prepares students for future careers in marketing. At competitions, students compete in a variety of events, centered around a specific aspect of marketing.
First place finishers include Grace Atemnkeng, 11, in Food Marketing Series, Jenna Smith, 11, in Retail Merchandising Series, and Nick Krapfl, 11, in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. Avery Simms, 12, Xavier Rozier-Epting, 12, and Jessica Leon, 11, finished just behind in third place.
Top eight finisher in Principles of Marketing, Mason Burg, 10, said hat DECA is “a great way to get ready for leadership roles in the real world.”
Westview DECA is also busy with a new expansion on the Westview Snack Shack during passing period. Now, you can find a second shop, stationed on the second floor by the library.
Snack Shack cashier and DECA member, Hayden Simmons, 10, is a part of the new eight-person crew upstairs.
“I think the addition was very beneficial for DECA as it brings us more customers for us to serve,” Simmons said.
Next up for Westview DECA is state in Lincoln over spring break. Top three finishers will earn their spot at ICDC, a national DECA competition in Atlanta.
