The Westview Powerlifting team is in the middle of their season and has had much success.
The season opened with the first Powerlifting event ever held at Westview. The meet included Westview, Central and North.
For Westview, Aliyah Schaefer,10, placed second in her weight class and Tori Owen,9, Kat McGovern,11, Julian Knight,10, and Theo Johnson,11, all placed first in their respective classes.
“Placing first at my first powerlifting meet felt amazing, especially after pushing myself and hitting new PR’s,” Owen, 9, said.
The team also competed at the Titan Powerlifting Meet at Papillion La-Vista South. Owen placed third, Agar Baai placed second, and Miles Marquis placed first overall.
Last year, Marquis placed second at the High School Powerlifting State Championships and is working hard to get back there.
“I have had a more even focus on all of the lifts rather than just one. The end goal is to win state, and I am working hard to get as strong as possible before then,” Marquis said.
There are two more meets before the state championships on February 21. On January 17, they will compete at Omaha Central and on February 7 they will be at Gretna High School.
